Teen Arrested, Charged With Stealing $3,000 Bike

The Loma Linda 16-year-old allegedly took off with the bicycle after arranging a meeting with the victim, who listed it for sale on Craigslist.

A 16-year-old Loma Linda resident was arrested Saturday after police allege he stole a custom bicycle valued at more than $3,000 while meeting the victim to purchase the item.

According to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the victim had listed the bicycle for sale on Craigslist. The victim was contacted by the suspect and they arranged a meeting in the area of San Juan Street and University Avenue in the city.

The two parties met at the location and began discussing the sale. When the victim returned to his car to get a few items, the suspect got on the bicycle and rode away.

The victim provided a description of both the suspect and the bicycle to police. Officers searched the area and found the suspect, who momentarily fled. But police located and detained him a short time later. He was positively identified by the victim and arrested.

The suspect, who's name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested and charged with grand theft and possession of stolen property. He is being held without bail at San Bernardion Juvenile Hall.
