Teens Suspected of Burglarizing Five Homes Are Arrested

Redlands Police say 19-year-old Marcus Brown and a 17-year-old juvenile, both from San Bernardino, led authorities on a high speed chase.

Two teenagers suspected of burglarizing five homes were arrested Thursday by Redlands Police following a high chase.

Police officials said a resident in the 300 block of South Dearborn Street spotted the burglars in a neighboring home about 10:30 a.m. and called authorities.

An officer responded just as the two suspects, 19-year-old Marcus Brown and a 17-year-old juvenile, both from San Bernardino, were driving away from the home, Police officials said. The officer tried to stop the vehicle at Citrus Avenue and University Street but the driver sped off entering Interstate 10, according to a news release.

Redlands Police Air Support Unit, Air 10, a Cessna 172, and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s helicopter, joined the chase, following the vehicle into San Bernardino, officials said.

The car exited the freeway and drove into the area of Arden Avenue and 23rd Street where the teens jumped out and ran, officials.

The air units guided officers to one suspect who was standing in the street. He had changed clothes by the time he was found, officials said. The second suspect was found during a search of the area, police officials said.

Inside the teens’ car, police found firearms and items that had been stolen from four other burglaries committed that morning in the areas of Fifth Avenue and Judson Street, investigators said.

Redlands Police are still investigating the case. They ask anyone with additional information to call Detective Tony Ortiz at (909) 798-7659 or Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681. Anonymous tips can be provided by texting 274637 using the keyword “REDTIP.”
