Ten Cited in Traffic Enforcement Efforts, DUI Checkpoint Friday in Redlands

The checkpoint is scheduled 10 p.m. Friday June 15 to 3 a.m. Saturday June 16 on eastbound Colton Avenue between New York and Texas streets, a city spokesman said.

Redlands police plan to conduct a grant-funded DUI/Drivers License checkpoint Friday night and early Saturday, a city spokesman announced Wednesday.

The checkpoint is scheduled 10 p.m. Friday June 15 to 3 a.m. Saturday June 16 on Colton Avenue between New York and Texas streets, a city spokesman said.

Earlier this week, police cited 10 drivers and recovered a stolen car during a grant-funded traffic enforcement operation on Monday, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

The traffic enforcement effort was conducted in multiple locations, from 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday, June 11.

Police monitored motorists in the areas of Texas and Stuart streets; San Timoteo Canyon Road and Alessandro Road; Ford Street at Sunset Drive, South Avenue and Eucalyptus Drive; University Street and Colton Avenue; and San Bernardino Avenue and Church Street, Baker said.

Six drivers were cited Monday were for failing to stop at a stop sign, two were cited for speeding, one was cited for using a cell phone while driving, and one was cited for driving on a suspended license, Baker said.

"Police assigned to the traffic enforcement patrol also recovered a stolen 1993 Honda Civic stripped of its motor, transmission and tires, on Grove Street at Pennsylvania Avenue," Baker said. "The car was reported stolen the same day from the area of Pioneer Avenue and Orange Street."

Funding for DUI/Drivers License checkpoints and traffic enforcement operations comes from California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
