Three Accused of Highland Vehicle Burglaries, Meth Packaged for Sale

The arrests occurred before dawn Aug. 31 in the area of Melanie Court and Autumn Chase Drive, south of Base Line and west of Church Street, Highland Station personnel reported.

Deputies arrested two men and one woman early Friday in Highland in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries and some methamphetamine packaged for sale, according to the Sheriff's Department.

There were "numerous victims throughout the surrounding neighborhood," Sgt. Chris Fisher of the sheriff's Highland Station said in a statement.

Deputies received a report of three subjects breaking into a car in the area of Melanie Court and Autumn Chase Drive in Highland at 4:32 a.m. Aug. 31, Fisher said.

Concerned residents who saw the suspicious subjects in the neighborhood directed deputies to where the subjects were last seen, Fisher said.

"The subjects were located and evidence was located linking the three to vehicle burglaries in the area," Fisher said. "Also methamphetamine was located packaged for sale."

Arrested were Christopher Lee Brown, 28, of Victorville, Melanie Hunbert, 29, of San Bernardino, and Daniel James Kirkham, 32, of San Bernardino, according to Fisher and inmate records.

All three were booked at Central Detention Center on suspicion of vehicle burglary and possession of a controlled substance for sale, Fisher said.

Brown and Kirkham were held Sunday on $50,000 bail each. Hunbert, who also spells her last name Humpert, was released on bail late Friday, according to inmate records.

Melanie Court and Autumn Chase Drive are south of Base Line and west of Church Street.

Redlands police dealt with a rash of in July and August, and arrested four men in connection with break-ins between Aug. 12 and Aug. 20, a Redlands spokesman said.
