Three Arrested on Suspicion of DUI in Redlands During St. Patrick's Weekend

During saturation patrols on March 17, a reckless driver led police on a pursuit beginning at Pennsylvania and Church before he was taken into custody at Hunter near University Street, city officials said.

Three people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Redlands during the St. Patrick's Day weekend, a city spokesman said Wednesday.

The first DUI arrest resulted from a checkpoint between 10 p.m. Friday March 15 and 3 a.m. Saturday March 16 on eastbound Colton Avenue, west of Texas Street, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

A total of 137 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and in addition to the DUI arrest, three people were cited for driving with suspended licenses, and three others were cited for driving without a license, Baker said.

Two additional DUI arrests resulted from grant-funded saturation patrols in Redlands on Sunday March 17, Baker said.

During the saturation patrols, a reckless driver "led police on a short pursuit beginning at Pennsylvania Avenue and Church Street before he was taken into custody at Hunter Drive near University Street," Baker said.

One person was cited Sunday for driving without a license, and another was cited for talking on a cell phone while driving, Baker said.

"Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000," Baker said.

Checkpoints and saturation patrols in Redlands are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
