Gastineau, was a 10-year sheriff's department veteran and was head of the Highland Sheriff’s explorer program. He was arrested April 22 after investigators received a tip about his alleged sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female explorer cadet, sheriff’s officials said.

The sheriff's department notified the Crimes Against Children Detail, which investigated the allegation.

A second man, Jason Anguiano, 27, of Rialto, was also accused of having sex with the same girl. He agreed to plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse and was sentenced to serve 180 in jail and three years probation. He will be given credit for time served, officials said.

Anguiano was also required to complete a sexual offenders treatment program and submit to HIV/AIDS testing, officials said.

Authorities said Anguiano met the girl he met through movie fan club co-founded by Gastineau.
