Trial for Former Deputy Accused of Sexual Misconduct Delayed

Nathan Gastineau, accused of having sexual relations with a minor, has been rescheduled again to accommodate a scheduling conflict for his attorney.

The trial of a former San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy accused of sexual misconduct with a minor and member of the Sheriff’s cadet academy has been pushed back yet again.

A readiness hearing for Nathan Gastineau was set for 8:20 a.m. June 21 in Department 26, San Bernardino Superior Court. According to a report by the San Bernardino Sun, attorney Andrew Haynal needed more time because he was also working another trial.

Gastineau was a 10-year veteran of the sheriff's department veteran and was head of the Highland Sheriff’s explorer program. He was arrested April 22, 2011. Sheriff’s investigators said they received a tip that Gastineau had sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female explorer cadet, sheriff’s officials said.

The sheriff's department notified the Crimes Against Children Detail, which investigated the allegation, sheriff’s officials said.

A second man, Jason Anguiano, 27, of Rialto, was also accused of having sex with the same girl. He agreed to plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse and was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail and three years probation.

Authorities said Anguiano met the girl he met through movie fan club co-founded by Gastineau.

The case has received a lot of attention after famed attorney Gloria Allred stepped in to represent the alleged victim.
