Two Boys, 10 and 13, Allegedly Pull Armed Robbery with Replica Handguns

Two boys, 10 and 13 years old, allegedly brandished plastic replica handguns and robbed two other youngsters Saturday at the Big Lots store on Highland Avenue, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to a report of a juvenile with a gun inside the Big Lots retail outlet in the 26000 block of Highland about 2 p.m. Aug. 3, Highland Station personnel said in a statement.

"An employee reported that two juvenile customers had just been robbed inside of the store at gunpoint," deputies said. "When the employee confronted the juvenile suspects, one of the suspects lifted his shirt exposing a handgun in his waistband and stated 'Want some old lady.'"

The suspects left the store just before deputies got there. A Sheriff’s Department helicopter crew responded and helped find the suspects running through a field, deputies said.

The suspects were a 10-year-old male and a 13-year-old male who approached two juveniles unknown to them inside the Big Lots, deputies said.

"The 13-year-old suspect took a replica handgun from his waistband, pointed it at the chest of one victim and demanded money," deputies said. "The victims gave the suspects 60 cents and the suspects attempted to flee the store. When they were confronted by the store employee, the 10-year-old suspect brandished the replica handgun in his waistband."

Deputies found two plastic replica handguns the suspects allegedly threw away when they were located by the sheriff's helicopter, according to Highland Station personnel.

The 13-year-old suspect was found to be on probation for burglary, and both suspects were booked at a juvenile hall facility on robbery charges, deputies said.

Anyone with more info was urged to call the Highland Station at (909) 425-9793.
