Two DUI Arrests at Sobriety Checkpoint in Redlands

Two people were arrested for driving under the influence during a DUI/drivers license checkpoint on Friday in Redlands, a city spokesman said Monday.

A total of 404 vehicles passed through the checkpoint staged by Redlands police traffic officers between 7 p.m. and midnight July 19 in westbound lanes of Citrus Avenue, west of Central Avenue near Redlands High School, city spokesman Carl Baker said in a statement.

In addition, police cited four people for driving without licenses, and four others for driving on suspended licenses, Baker said.

Earlier last week, on Wednesday July 17, Redlands police focused on distracted drivers and issued 20 citations for violations including failure to stop at stop signs or flashing red lights, using a cell phone while driving, and failure to wear a seatbelt, Baker said.

Most of the citations were issued in the area of Dearborn Street and Lugonia Avenue, Baker said.

Next Monday July 29, Redlands police are planning a motorcycle enforcement detail, "focusing on areas that receive high motorcycle traffic and targeting motorcyclists who are speeding or driving in an unsafe manner," Baker said.

The locations of the motorcycle enforcement detail were not immediately disclosed.

Funding for DUI/drivers license checkpoints in Redlands are covered by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
