UPDATE: 2 Fires Near 15 Freeway in Cajon Pass, 3rd Fire Near Highway 18 North of San Bernardino

Update 12:49 a.m. More than 400 firefighters remained assigned to fires in the Cajon Pass and Waterman Canyon early Sunday, near the 15 Freeway, State Route 38 and Highway 18, according to the Forest Service.

Update 9:35 p.m. Fires near the 15 Freeway and State Route 18 remained a concern for mountain residents and motorists north of Redlands and Loma Linda after sundown Saturday.

The Cleghorn Fire in the Cajon Pass prompted evacs at a McDonalds restaurant and a gas station convenience store at the Cleghorn exit, Melody Lardner of the San Bernardino National Forest said in a phone interview.

That fire had burned an estimated 110 acres and it was considered 10 percent contained as of 9:15 p.m., Lardner said.

The Inspiration Fire in Waterman Canyon was estimated at 3 acres, and it prompted calls from residents in Crestline who were concerned about the smoke and temporary closure of the 18, Lardner said.

Posted 8:30 p.m. Three fires were burning Saturday evening north of Redlands and Loma Linda, two in the Cajon Pass and one near Highway 18 north of San Bernardino, Forest Service officials said.

Smoke from the fires, which was visible for miles, appeared to be drifting north and west, away from Redlands and Loma Linda.

The first fire was reported about 4:20 p.m. Aug. 17 near Inspiration Point on Highway 18, Forest Service officials said.

Incident commanders call it the Inspiration Fire and said it "is comprised of two small fires and total acreage burned is about 3 acres."

Highway 18 was closed between upper and lower Waterman Canyon Road.

"The lower fire is within the city of San Bernardino and the incident is in unified command with the city fire department," Forest Service officials said.

The other two fires were reported about 5:25 p.m. Aug. 17 near Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass south of Cleghorn Road, Forest Service officials said.

Northbound lanes of the 15 were open. State Route 138 was closed from the 15 to Summit Valley Road in Hesperia. Incident commanders called the two blazes in the Cajon Pass the Cleghorn Fire and estimated they had burned 100 acres.
