Two Suspects, Ages 16 and 20, Accused of Vehicle Burglaries in Loma Linda

Deputies received several reports Sunday morning of vehicle burglaries in apartment complex parking lots on Redlands Boulevard in Loma Linda, Central Station personnel said.

Two suspects, ages 16 and 20, were arrested Sunday on suspicion of vehicle burglary in Loma Linda, sheriff's Central Station personnel said.

Deputies started receiving reports at 7 a.m. Oct. 7 about vehicle burglaries in apartment complex parking lots on Redlands Boulevard in Loma Linda, Deputy Donald Patton of the Central Station in a statement.

Locations listed by the Sheriff's Department included the 26200 block of Redlands Boulevard and the 25900 block of Redlands Boulevard.

"As deputies were investigating these vehicle burglaries, sheriff's dispatch received information from a victim that they had just scared off two suspects who were breaking into their car," Patton said. "The suspects were last seen walking eastbound on Redlands Blvd. towards the City of Redlands."

A short time later a deputy located two suspects walking in the area of California Street and the 10 Freeway, Patton said.

"Through investigation, it was found that the suspects were in possession of property that had been stolen out of the vehicles, in addition to other, possibly unreported stolen property," Patton said. "As a result of this investigation, a total of five vehicles were found to have been burglarized."

Both suspects were arrested and they were identified as Henry Rios, 20, of Highland, and a 16-year-old male whose name was not released.

Rios was booked at Central Detention Center and his bail was set at $25,000, Patton said. Rios was released Sunday afternoon, according to inmate records.

The teenager was arrested and booked at San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall, Patton said. An update on the teen's status Tuesday was not available.

"Transitory crime," involving suspects who come to Loma Linda from other communities, and apartment complex parking lots full of unattended vehicles were cited as factors during a discussion of Loma Linda crime statistics at a council meeting in early September.
