UPDATE: Fire on Outer Highway 10 Starts in Yucaipa, Spreads to Redlands

The fire was reported just before noon Wednesday on the south side of Interstate 10, a Redlands spokesman said.

Update 3:17 p.m. Investigators were trying to determine the cause of a five-acre fire Wednesday that prompted temporary evacuations of homes on Knoll Drive in east Redlands.

Fire crews were working in the smoldering burned area to ensure flames and hot spots were extinguished, a state firefighter based in Yucaipa said from Knoll Drive at 3:15 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and property damage was "unknown," the state firefighter said.

The fire started near some businesses on Outer Highway 10 in Yucaipa jurisdiction and burned uphill into Redlands towards Knoll Drive, according to witnesses and a Redlands spokesman.

Update 2:17 p.m. Firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers went door-to-door on Knoll Drive to ask people to evacuate their homes during a fire Wednesday in east Redlands, a resident said.

"My kids saw smoke about 11:45," Amanda Frye, who lives on Hilltop Drive, said in a phone interview. "They were outside in the yard and saw the smoke.

"We walked down there and helped one of my friends," Frye said. "We brought his llama up to my house."

The fire was reported just before noon Wednesday on the south side of Interstate 10, a Redlands spokesman said.

"They evacuated everybody on Knoll drive, up hill from the fire," Frye said at 2:15 p.m.. "It's out now. They're doing mop up."

Firefighters on scene included inmate crews in orange, Frye said.

The fire started near some businesses, including Rocky Plaza Market and Liquor, which has a street address of 31583 Outer Highway 10, and burned upslope towards Knoll Drive.

No injuries or structure damage were reported.

Posted 1:57 p.m. Firefighters from Cal Fire, the Forest Service and Redlands responded to a vegetation fire Wednesday on Outer Highway 10, where east Redlands borders Yucaipa.

The fire was reported just before noon Wednesday on the south side of Interstate 10, a Redlands spokesman said.

The blaze charred about five acres as it started on land in Yucaipa's jurisdiction and spread west into Redlands, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

The fire was burning behind some businesses, including Rocky Plaza Market and Liquor, which has a street address of 31583 Outer Highway 10, Redlands.

No structure damage and no injuries were reported as of 1:55 p.m., Baker said.
