Firefighters do a great job, however when they come to the public trough, do they need to make 2 and a half times the income and benefits of the population whose average income is $47,000 for a family of four? Blessed are the poor for theirs is the kingdom, . Better yet the government officials that engorge themselves at this same trough, then utilize "Thug legal " to enforce plutocratic policy against this same public under cover of law. Top this with apathy, comfort zone, plausible deniabilty due to media that covers for government instead of Reporting Government, and we cause fires of all types in public forest of Knowledge. Oy Veh! Does the PUBLIC put their lives on the line almost every time they walk out the door to do their jog??

They are doing their job. The Military put their lives in harms way especially now in Iraq and Afghanistan. Often the pay and benefits aren't comparable.
