Veteran L.A. County Deputy Accused of Sex with Teen Girl, Relieved of Duty w/o Pay

A veteran Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of having sex with a teen girl, based on info that initially came from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, and he was relieved of duty without pay.

Deputy John Augustus Rose II, age 43, allegedly had sex with a teen-aged female juvenile during incidents between February and June of 2013 while Rose was off-duty, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

Asked Thursday night where the alleged incidents occurred, L.A. County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore declined to provide details.

"We're not going to get into that," Whitmore said.

A spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department referred questions to L.A. County.

L.A. County received info about Rose from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department on Saturday Sept. 7, L.A. County sheriff's officials said in a statement Thursday night.

The Los Angeles County sheriff's Special Victims Bureau investigated the information that came from San Bernardino County, and Rose was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony lewd acts on a child 14 or 15 years old.

Rose was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, 210 West Temple, Los Angeles, and booked at the sheriff's East L.A. Station at 6:50 p.m.

Rose was held Thursday night on $325,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center on Bauchet Street in downtown Los Angeles, according to inmate records.

Rose had been with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department 22 years and he was last assigned to the Community Oriented Policing Services Bureau, L.A. County sheriff's officials said.
