A contingent of 51 personnel remained assigned to the Hathaway Fire burn area east of Redlands and northeast of Banning as Monday evening, including Del Rosa Hot Shots, Mill Creek Hot Shots and a Heaps Peak Helitack crew, the acting incident commander said in an interview at Banning Municipal Airport.

The size of the burn area remained at 3,825 acres and containment was still estimated at 95 percent, USFS Capt. Uriel Ortega of the Del Rosa Hot Shots said shortly after 5:30 p.m. June 24.

The estimated cost of fighting the fire as of Monday evening was $13 million, Ortega said.

The cause of the fire, which broke out Sunday June 9 on the north edge of the Morongo Indian Reservation, remained under investigation.

Twelve firefighters have sustained minor injuries on the Hathaway Fire since June 9. A Burn Area Emergency Response team has been assigned to the incident.

The remaining helicopter assigned to the burned area Monday was from Heaps Peak, just off Highway 18 outside Lake Arrowhead. Del Rosa firefighters are from north San Bernardino and Mill Creek firefighters are based at Highway 38 and Bryant. Going forward, incident command for the fire will be at Mill Creek Ranger Station, Mentone.
