Citizens Action for Peace, based in Redlands, will honor the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary on Friday as part of their weekly protest.

The public is invited to participate in a candlelight vigil scheduled to start about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Redlands Boulevard and Orange Street. The group usually gathers in front of the Mattress Showroom.

Each Friday, CAP members gather from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The group has called for the end of the wars in the Middle East and works toward the realization of a more equitable, democratic and safer world through nonviolent political and social action, organizers said.

According to its website, Citizen's Action for Peace began in 2002 and is the successor to Redlands Peace Group, which began in 1980. The group formed in response to the buildup to the war in Iraq, organizers wrote.

Everyone is welcomed to the vigil. Written signs that promote peace and honor the victims of the Newtown shooting are encouraged.
