UPDATE: Cajon Pass Blaze Fully Contained

Forest Service officials are able to beat the heat and get the Ken Fire into full control after two days.

Firefighters were able to reach full containment of the Ken Fire about 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Cajon Pass.

About 200 firefighters were still on the scene Wednesday, getting a handle on the 375-acre blaze, which broke out Monday. Fire officials were worried that the extreme heat and low humidity would possibly delay the contaiment until Thursday.

Some crews will remain on the scene to provide mop up services and finish putting out any hot spots that may flare up.

One home, two storage containers and three outbuildings were destroyed in the Mathews Ranch area of the region. Two US Forest Service firefighters were injured and a local resident was hospitalized due to the fire. None of the injuries were serious.

More than 600 firefighters have worked the blaze, including members of the Redlands Fire Department. Redlands Fire, through its Facebook page, said Wednesday morning that its crew led by Battalion Chief Jim Topoleski, is expected to be released from the incident this evening.
