BOOKING PHOTO: Yucaipa Teen Arrested in Connection to Police Chase

Police say the 19-year-old was driving an Acura reported stolen out of Yucaipa Tuesday.

A 19-year-old Yucaipa man was jailed Thursday night, suspected of leading police on a high speed chase through Beaumont a day earlier.

The teen, identified as Jesse Robey, was booked on charges of car theft, resisting arrest, hit and run, reckless driving, possession of burglary tools, and knowingly receiving stolen property, according to jail records and Beaumont Police Spokeswoman Darci Mulvihill.

According to Mulvihill, Robey was driving a white Acura in the area of Oak Valley Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue around 7:34 p.m. Wednesday when police tried to pull him over for a traffic violation.

"The car failed to stop and led officers on a brief pursuit through the City before losing control and crashing into a planter in 500 block of Egan Avenue," Mulvihill said, adding that the Acura had been reported stolen out of Yucaipa the previous day.

Once he crashed near the Precision Stampings building on Egan, south of 6th Street, the teen didn't stop there.  He tried to run away from the site, but was "quickly taken into custody," Mulvihill said.

He had to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash, but was then booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.   A male passenger who was riding with Robey was also treated for minor injuries, but released from police custody, according to Mulvihill.

Police asked that anyone with information in this ongoing investigation contact them at (951) 769-8500.
