A La Minute Supports Redlands' 125th Anniversary with Ice Cream-Filled Mugs

Each mug comes with 'your choice of hand-crafted ice cream,' city officials said. A portion of mug sale proceeds will benefit the city's anniversary celebration.

The owner and staff at á la Minute creamery in downtown Redlands are helping sponsor the city's year-long 125th Anniversary celebration by offering mugs adorned with a quasquicentennial logo and filled with a portion of made-to-order ice cream, city officials announced this week.

The commemorative 15-ounce mugs, designed by Richard Pennington of Pennington Designs, are for sale for $12 each at á la Minute on Citrus Avenue across from City Hall, according to the City of Redlands.

"The quasquicentennial celebration marks the 125th Anniversary of the City's incorporation in November 1888," Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

"The yearlong celebration kicked off on Dec. 1 with the Redlands Christmas Parade, sponsored by the City and the Kiwanis Club of Redlands. Additional events are being planned throughout the year," Baker said.

No general fund money has been allocated by the city for the celebration, Baker said.

"All funds will come from donations, fundraising efforts and revenue from the sale of sponsorships and commemorative merchandise," Baker said.

So far, the Kiwanis Club of Redlands, the University of Redlands and Kaiser-Permanente have donated $10,000 each, and the Rotary Clubs of Redlands and American Medical Response have donated $5,000 each, Baker said.

The City Council approved an agreement in September 2012 with Pennington Designs for production of commemorative merchandise and memorabilia for Redlands' 125th celebration, Baker said.

In addition to producing clothing, key chains, jewelry, coffee mugs, plaques, sculptures and other items for sale, company owner Richard Pennington has proposed a marketing strategy to allow non-profits, clubs, companies and retailers in Redlands to participate in fundraising, Baker said.

Pennington Designs is at 19 E. Citrus Ave., Suite 104, and á la Minute is next door at 19 E. Citrus Ave., Suite 105.
