Heart and Surgical Hospital Chapel Gets New Name

Loma Linda University Heart & Surgical Hospital is being named in memory of Julian A. "Jay" Moss III.

The chapel at the Loma Linda University Heart & Surgical Hospital, in Redlands, is being named in memory of Julian A. “Jay” Moss III, of Riverside.

Both Mr. Moss and his wife, Laura, were long-time supporters of cardiac care at Loma Linda University Medical Center. After Mr. Moss passed away in 2004, Laura, desiring to continue her support, invited family and friends to join with her in honoring Jay’s memory.

The family and friends worked with the office of philanthropy, providing a gift to name the chapel and to support one of Jay’s passions: premier heart care in the Inland Empire.

A press conference was held June 9 to launch the study, which is funded by the South Coast Air Quality Management District, in cooperation with the city of San Bernardino.

The BNSF San Bernardino Rail Yard is a major gateway to the nation’s trade and one of the busiest facilities of its kind in California. Local community and air pollution agencies have identified the rail yard as a significant health and environmental issue.

In a 2008 California Air Resources Board report, the SBR ranked first in California in terms of community health risk due to the large population living in the immediate vicinity.
