How to Get Tickets to the Inauguration

Constituents should act quickly to request tickets from their Congressman or Senator for President Obama's Jan. 21 inauguration.

Interested in attending the presidential inauguration in Washington, DC, in January? There are a limited number of tickets, so your best bet is to request them now from your member of Congress.

Each Senator and Representative receives a limited quantity of free tickets that they may distribute to the public at their discretion.

To find your representative, enter your ZIP Code at the United States House of Representatives website.

In 2009, President Obama's inauguration attracted 1.8 million to the National Mall, according to an estimate from the Washington Post.

President Obama's swearing-in will take place at noon Monday, Jan. 21 on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. (He'll be sworn in privately the day before, due to a constitutional requirement that he be sworn in by Jan. 20, since the 20th falls on a Sunday.) If you don't get a ticket, there are large screens set up on the mall to watch the goings-on.

Viewing the swearing-in ceremonies from the National Mall does not require tickets. The non-ticketed area of the National Mall begins at Fourth Street NW.

The swearing-in and address will be followed by a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, which is open to the public.

Many states have their own inaugural balls. For those interested in attending Inaugural Balls and the Parade, tickets are available through the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Sorry but I'm busy that day doing something much more fun and rewarding....cleaning toilets.

You're lucky to have that job with Obama in office.
Jeff Brook November 29, 2012 at 02:07 am
If life with Barack is so bad, how is that virtually everyone who had money invested in stocks in 2007/2008 is in far better shape now than they were then (as a result of the actions of his predecessor)? Linda, enjoy your cleaning, and Lucas, I guess it all started with Obama, eh.

@Jeff: well said.

@Jeff/Cathy;
Tell that to the millions of unemployed/underemployed people out there. I'm sure that will make them happy.

Rich people did quite well under the Obama administration, especially those who supported Obama, who after the election received all kinds of grants, guaranteed loans, and other benefits. Rich people always do well. They may do less well under certain situations and more well in others, but they always do "well." What happens when Rich people don't do as well as they would like, is they back off making investments, growing their companies they own, hiring more people, etc. They still do well, but the rest of us don't do so well. Maybe nobody likes rich people other than other rich people, but they are necessary for a nation's economy to grow and prosper. The more people who are driven to make more and bigger profits, the more opportunity there will be for others to make more and make bigger profits for themselves. When the unemployment rate is far higher among private sector workers than for government workers, the economy is not prospering. Although it is true that government spending -- something the liberals/progressives (Democrats) support so much -- does circulate dollars into the economy, those dollars are just re-circulated dollars, or just a portion of the dollars that somebody in the private sector earned. The government takes in money from those in the private sector who earned it, then re-circulates a portion of those dollars. Just a portion. When the private sector booms, the nation's economy booms. Government growth and spending is regressive, in the end.

When I look at President Barack Obama, I see a combination of the corruptness of President Richard Nixon and the ineptness of President Jimmy Carter. President Obama is a combination of these two men. We all know the inept part; we have seen in play out over the past four years (no budget from the Democrat-controlled U.S.Senate, no attempt at by-partisan attempts as solving our nations challenges and problems, greater increase of national debt than any President in history, etc.) and the corruption part, the Nixon side of this President, will no doubt become a matter of public record in this second term, just as it became a matter of public record during President Nixon's second term. One major question will be if President Obama will quietly go away as Nixon did, or will he try to bring the nation down with him when the walls collapse all around and on him. Nixon left, by my count, just two positive legacies: (1) He declined to challenge the vote count, especially in Illinois, of the 1960 election on the grounds that even if the election results were overturned, it would cause the nation more harm than good. Al Gore failed that character test and will be remembered as less of a man than Richard Nixon (not a good thing for his own legacy. (2) Nixon resigned as President, rather than put the nation through an Impeachment trial and conviction in the House and removal from office by the Senate. Nixon failed America in so many ways, but walked tall with these two decisions.

Sad to say but most of these Kool-aide drinkers fail to see just how much damage that Obama has done and will continue to do to our country, or economy and the American way of life. It is scary to think what a difficult job the next adult to get elected will be stuck with. If our country manages to make it through the next 4 years without a total collapse, then the future will be so dim with all of the destruction, moral collapse and divisiveness that the current regime and the liberal media have inflicted on this once proud and prosperous land.
Cathy P. November 29, 2012 at 07:19 pm
Whoa Phil, you really need to turn off that Fox News channel, talk about drinking the Kool-aide!
Cathy P. November 29, 2012 at 07:40 pm
@Gary: since it was a Republican who said that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president," I think THEY should explain to the "millions of unemployed/underemployed people out there" why they did their damnedest to block any and all efforts to fix the economy by any means possible.

If you want to know what "sustainablity" is really about, come hear Rosa Koire at RedlandsRead More Townhall on May 23, 6:30 pm at the American Legion Hall, 814 W. Colton Avenue. "Sustainability" is UN Agenda 21.
Gregory Brittain May 21, 2013 at 10:03 am
“Sustainability” = UN Agenda 21 = less liberty and less prosperity. One of the bestRead More sources is self-described “liberal democrat,” “feminist,” “lesbian” Rosa Koire and her book “Behind the Green Mask: U.N. Agenda 21.” For more information, please see: http://www.postsustainabilityinstitute.org/ http://www.democratsagainstunagenda21.com/ http://www.democratsagainstunagenda21.com/uploads/4/4/6/6/4466371/why_is_everyone_talking_about_un_agenda_21.pdf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDtCb45Lqt0 If the U.N. is involved, it can’t be good for America and it can’t be good for liberty. Usually I'd start with how teachers should be paid in line with their students grades, but for nowRead More I'll just suggest going to the .99 cent stores. You can get everything from 100 packs of #2 pencils to college ruled notebooks and binders, to pens and highlighters. We go there weekly and send boxes of school supplies, crayons and coloring books to our troops in Afghanistan to help them befriend the locals. The biggest score is cans of party string that usually go for $5. They spray it into a room and the streamers will hang on any tripwires without setting off the bomb. And try asking the store manager if corporate might be willing to throw in 2 for the price of one or a bakers dozen on highly stocked items if you can get several other teaches to also shop there. It never hurts to ask.
Susana Leija May 23, 2013 at 12:34 pm
I have shopped at Staples for years and have yet gotten a so-called reward. Why the change of heartRead More now? The school supplies are overpriced anyway. I get things really inexpensively at Walmart right before school starts. There is no limit as to how many things one can buy like there is at Staples.
History & Reason May 23, 2013 at 07:37 am
Look at that. A turn style. Hey where'd the party go?
