Loma Linda City Council Saying Goodbye to Longtime Member

A reception will be held in honor of Stan Brauer, who is leaving the Loma Linda City Council after 20 years.

On Tuesday, the Loma Linda City Council will say goodbye to a longtime member.

Stan Brauer is leaving the Council after 20 years and terms as mayor and mayor pro-tem. A reception will be held in the Civic Center foyer at 5:30 p.m., which will double as a celebration for councilmen-elect John Lenart, Ovidiu Popescu, and Rhodes Rigsby.

Brauer was first elected to the council in 1992, and served as mayor from July 2008 to July 2010. He is an anesthesiologist at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

In an earlier interview with Patch, current Loma Linda Mayor Rigsby said, “Dr. Brauer was a great mentor to me on the City Council. He was a great mayor. He was a stalwart in every sense of the word. And still is.

“What he’s doing is making good on a promise he made 20 years ago when he first ran. He said, ‘I’ll only run for one term.’ And every four years, to the benefit of Loma Linda, he forestalled that term limit. And now it’s finally coming home to roost. I suspect his family convinced him not to do it again, because he was still enjoying himself and doing a great job.”

During the Council meeting at 7 p.m., Brauer will receive presentations from the city and Chamber of Commerce, and the new mayor and mayor pro-tem will be chosen.
