Loma Linda Looks to Bring in the Money

Loma Linda's City Council considers expanding the Auto Plaza.

With an eye toward bringing more money to Loma Linda’s coffers and more business to their town, the City Council will consider expanding the Loma Linda Auto Center on Tuesday night.

The sales tax brought in to the city is essential, Konrad Bolowich, Director of Information Systems, said in a previous interview.

Developers propose building an used car sales lot east of the existing auto plaza, which sits between Redlands Boulevard and Interstate 10, according to a staff report.

The move will not only bring in additional sales tax, it might also encourage other businesses to settle in the city, the staff report said.

Spreen Honda, Hyundai Inland Empire and Quaid Harley Davidson are already a part of the center.

“Obviously, we rely on our sales tax,” Bolowich said. The city gets in excess of $3 million a year, he said.

“That’s a quarter of the city’s budget,” Bolowich said.

Expanding the plaza will not cost the city, officials said.

Loma Linda’s City Council will meet at 7 p.m.  at the Civic Center, 25541 Barton Road.
