Man Accused of Grand Theft Auto and Impersonating a Loma Linda Resident

Joseph Fagin, 32, of San Bernardino, was arrested just before 5 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Avenue and Interstate 10, according to the sheriff's department.

A San Bernardino man was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of grand theft auto and impersonating a Loma Linda resident, sheriff's Central Station personnel announced Friday.

Before 5 a.m. Tuesday, deputies in Loma Linda were called to the area of Barton Road near Mountain View for a reported vehicle theft that had just occurred, according to a Central Station statement.

"When Deputies arrived on scene they saw the stolen vehicle being driven by a hispanic male north on Mountain View toward San Bernardino," the statement said. "Deputies searched the area where the vehicle was last seen, however the suspect evaded capture."

About two hours later Colton police contacted Loma Linda deputies and advised they had the stolen vehicle stopped on Interstate 10 in Rialto and had three detained, the statement said.

Investigators arrested Joseph Fagin, 32, at 4:56 a.m. Tuesday May 29 on suspicion of possessing of stolen property and falsely identifying himself as another person, Central Station personnel said.

Fagin "identified himself as a white male who lives in Loma Linda," deputies said. "An investigation is ongoing as to how he gathered the personal information of the victim."

Fagin was booked into Central Detention Center in San Bernardino, where he was held on $150,000 bail, according to inmate records.
