Redlands firefighters, police cfficers and other sworn personnel are getting new badges that pay tribute to the city's 125th year since incorporation.
The quasquicentennial celebration, recognizing the city's birth in 1888, continues through November 2013.
"Both the Fire and Police Department badges were paid for by department employees at no cost to the City," Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in an announcement this week.
The Police Department badge was designed and manufactured by V&V Manufacturing in the City of Industry, Baker said. Badge details include the University of Redlands Memorial Chapel, the Redlands city seal, and the legend 1888-2013, Baker said.
The Fire Department badge was designed by a committee of Redlands firefighters and manufactured by Sun Badge Company of Ontario, Baker said. Badge details include fire axes and citrus fruit on the bottom edge of the badge, to recognize the role of citrus in Redlands history, Baker said.
"All personnel who ordinarily wear a badge during the performance of their duties, including firefighters, police officers, community service officers, animal control officers and other personnel may wear the anniversary badges," Baker said.
Retired police personnel and those who don't ordinarily wear badges were allowed to purchase display police badges encased in transparent plastic, Baker said.
