New Third District Supervisor Ramos Announces Approval of Three Staff Hires

James Ramos, who won election to represent the Third District in November, was sworn into office on Dec. 3.

The new elected leader for San Bernardino County's Third District, which includes Redlands and Loma Linda, announced on Tuesday the Board of Supervisors has approved three of his staff hires.

James Ramos, who won election to represent the Third District in November, was sworn into office on Dec. 3.

The board on Tuesday approved Deputy Chief of Staff Chris Carrillo, Legislative Analyst Tony Mejia, and Communications Director Molly Wiltshire as the latest members to join Ramos' staff, according to an announcement.

• Carrillo will handle Ramos' policy operations including transportation, social services, and land use issues, according to the announcement. His prior experience includes work as Senior Field Representative for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein since 2006, in San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange counties.

• Mejia will provide Ramos with understanding of proposed legislative and budgetary issues brought before the Board of Supervisors, according to the announcement. Mejia's prior experience includes work the past nine years for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians as Intergovernmental Affairs Representative and Risk Management Specialist.

• Wiltshire will serve as primary spokesperson for the Supervisor and as primary contact for news media, according to the announcement. Her duties will include updating Third District residents through various forms of media including newsletters, social media outlets, and the Third District County Supervisor website. She is a graduate of the University of Redlands.

Carrillo, Mejia and Wiltshire join Ramos' Chief of Staff Phil Paule and Executive Secretary Julianne Torres. Ramos will announce his Field Team after the first of the year.

The Tuesday announcement included the following estimates regarding the new hires' contracts:

a. Molly Wiltshire, Communications Assistant, estimated annual cost of $77,691 (Salary - $45,915, Benefits - $31,776).

b. Otoniel Tony Mejia, Board of Supervisors Administrative Analyst, estimated annual cost of $111,518 (Salary - $71,201, Benefits - $40,317).

c. Christopher Carrillo, Deputy Chief of Staff, estimated annual cost of $161,361 (Salary - $91,016, Benefits - $70,345).

Outgoing Third District Supervisor Neil Derry and Ramos waged a contentious campaign before voters decided Ramos will represent the supervisorial district that includes Redlands and Loma Linda.

The Third District is home to about 407,000 residents and it covers roughly 2,700 square miles that contain the Morongo Basin, Big Bear, Barstow, and parts of the Inland Empire.
