Planning Commission Set to Meet Today

Board will discuss church expansion and California Building Standard codes.

The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 tonight in the City Council chambers.

This will be the first official meeting of the year, as the commission postponed their Jan. 5 meeting after failing to meet quorum.

The commission will discuss Loma Linda University Seventh-day Adventist Church’s request for a one-year extension of a project that proposes to demolish an existing 3,300 square-foot chapel to make way for a 21,500 square-foot addition to the church facility.

The addition will provide assembly space for the congregation and include a new lobby area, restrooms and basement storage. The new addition will be located next to a classroom building and commons area.

The extension would run from the original expiration date on Sept. 22, 2010 to Sept. 21 of this year. The project is at 11125 Campus Street, just south of University Avenue in the Institutional Zone.

A presentation will be made to the commission on the 2010 California Building Standards Code, recently adopted by the State Legislature and the City of Loma Linda.

The code includes the green building and residential codes, and international property maintenance code.

The new codes are designed to help California’s communities reduce green house gas emissions and adhere to climate action plans.

The workshop is meant to introduce the Planning Commission and community to the codes.

Commissioners will look at updating the Loma Linda Municipal Code, title 16 and title 17 to ensure they comply with the City’s General, State Law and current planning practices.

The council chambers are at 25541 Barton Road.
