Proposed Congressional District Sends Loma Linda West

The new map released Friday will keep the city with its neighbors, including Redlands, but add Rancho Cucamonga and Upland.

Loma Linda leaders got their wish Friday, as the final proposed redistricting maps were released.

The city will remain in a congressional district with neighbor Redlands, as well as Colton, Grand Terrace and San Bernardino. But the new district, as presented Friday, will also include west-end cities such as Rialto, Rancho Cucamonga and Upland.

The proposal could set up a showdown for the proposed District 31 between two of its residents currently serving in Congress: Rep. Joe Baca Sr. (D-Rialto) and Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Redlands).

The new District 35 would encompass Fontana, Ontario, Montclair and Chino, and a new District 8 would include everything east of Mentone to the state line, and north through the high desert all the way to above Mono Lake.

Members of Congress do not have to live in the district they serve.

There will be a vote to adopt the proposed districts Aug. 15. For a look at the proposed districts, go to the state redistricting website.
