Redlands Air Show is Canceled

Committee members say they are forced to pull the plug 10 days before the show after being hit with service and permit fees by the city.

The organizing committee behind Redlands Air Show Committee announced Thursday that this year's event has been canceled.

According to organizers, the city is charging them more than $4,600 in fees, too high for the event coordinators to raise in advance.

"The committee has tried to work with the city but we had no success," wrote committee member Philip Mark Ensley on the Airshow's Facebook page. "It's hard to believe that after the amount of work all the volunteers have put into making this show bigger and better then last year we have to cancel 10 days before the show. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

City officials said they are not sure why the event needs to be canceled. The council will address the issue and the possible waiving of fees on Tuesday, said Carl Baker, spokesman with the city.

This was set to be the third annual show. Last year's event drew in more than 7,000 from around the area.
