Council to Discuss Sale of Redlands Historic Post Office

The US Postal Service recently announced its intention to sell the historic facility on Brookside Avenue.

The Historic post office at 201 Brookside Ave. has been placed on Tuesday’s Redlands City Council agenda.

The facility has drawn a lot of attention following a March 2 announcement by the US Postal Service that it intended to sell the building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

“The USPS has stated that it plans to maintain the historic characteristics of the building through covenants with the future buyer,” according to a Redlands city staff report.

On March 14, the Redlands Historical Museum Association delivered a letter to the City Manager requesting the city submit a letter of interest to buy the Post Office property for use as the Redlands Historical Museum, according to the staff report.

The property is not yet up for sale, and city officials said postal officials expect it could take four months before it is listed, according to the report. The city will receive notification of the potential sale of the property as part of the due process, officials said.
