Redlands Man is Among 30 Appointees to State's Workforce Investment Board

A Redlands man is among 30 appointees to the California Workforce Investment Board, a private-sector led body tasked with advising Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. on jobs and workforce development, the governor's staff announced Monday.

Joseph Williams, 36, of Redlands, has been chief executive officer at Youth Action Project since 2007, according to the governor's staff. Before that, Williams was a re-entry coordinator and employment service specialist for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department from 2004 to 2007.

Williams also worked as an employment service specialist for the County of San Bernardino Workforce Development Department from 2003 to 2004. He was an employment service analyst at the County of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Business Resource Office from 2002 to 2003.

This position on the California Workforce Investment Board does not require Senate confirmation, according to the governor's staff. The compensation is $100 per diem.

Gov. Brown described Williams and the other appointees as "30 of California's brightest business, labor and education leaders to help put Californians back to work."

The California Workforce Investment Board is expected to work closely with the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development - also known as GO-Biz - to "identify the needs of industry and to create career pathways that provide businesses the skilled workforce they need . . .  while putting unemployed and underemployed Californians back to work," according to the governor's staff.
