Redlands Touts Online Accident Reports

Accident reports will still be available from the Redlands police Records Division during regular business hours at no charge, for those who do not wish to pay the fee or who do not have a computer, a city spokesman said.

Redlands police have entered into an agreement with a company to provide online traffic accident reports to individuals, insurance companies, law firms and others for a fee, a city spokesman announced this week.

"Working with Docview, a Michigan company that provides document solutions to law enforcement nationwide, the Redlands Police Department will provide accident reports online within 24-hours after the report is completed," Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

While taking traffic accident reports, Redlands Police officers will be able to provide each motorist with a report number and contact information for Docview.us.com, according to Baker.

"Within 24 hours of the report being completed by the investigating officer, it will be available to view online by the individuals as well as insurance companies, law firms or other interested parties," Baker said.

"Reports can be accessed online any time of day or night, seven days a week," Baker said. "Docview charges a $8 convenience fee for the report."

"There is no cost to the City to provide reports online, however the Police Department expects to realize thousands of dollars in savings for paper and ink, in addition to staff time otherwise spent processing reports," Baker said.
