Rep. Miller: Unemployment Shows Economy 'Mired in Red Tape'

The Republican who represents the 31st district said he continues to push for pro-growth policies to strengthen our economy and provide jobs for Inland Empire residents.

Rep. Gary Miller said the national unemployment figures released Tuesday show an economy "saddled by failed stimulus projects and mired in red tape."

"Today’s unemployment report once again fell short of expectations," the Republican who represents Redlands and San Bernardino said in a statement.

"Our economy, saddled by failed stimulus projects and mired in red tape is unable to create the jobs and growth needed for a successful economic recovery.

"That is why I have continued to push for pro-growth policies such as supporting the global competitiveness of U.S. companies and ensuring a stable and healthy housing market. These reforms will strengthen our economy and provide jobs for Inland Empire residents and Americans across the country.”

The September jobs report, released by the Labor Department on Tuesday morning, delivered a mixed bag of news for the U.S. economy.

Although employers in the United States added only 148,000 jobs, far fewer than the 193,000 jobs that were added in August and even significantly fewer than the 180,000 jobs that many economists had predicted, the unemployment rate dropped slightly from 7.3 to 7.2 percent.
