State Senate to Vote on High-Speed Rail Bill Today

The Assembly Thursday voted to approve initial funding for the California high-speed rail project and now the bill goes before the Senate today for consideration, reported the Sacramento Bee.
The Assembly voted 51-27 to approve the bill, an approval that was expected, but the measure faces a tougher fight in the Senate, the newspaper reported.
The legislation calls for $5.8 billion for construction in the Central Valley, $2.6 billion in rail bond funds and $3.2 billion in federal funding. Those funds are tied to close to $2 billion to be used to revamp regional rail systems and connect them to high-speed rail.
