Super Walmart Developers Ask More Time for Redlands Crossing Discussion

A discussion of the project before the City Council is scheduled Sept. 4, but Walmart Stores Inc. representatives have requested more time, a city spokesman said. The discussion will likely be re-scheduled for Oct. 2.

The group of developers who want to build Redlands Crossing and the Walmart Supercenter at San Bernardino Avenue and Tennessee Street have requested the City Council reschedule discussion of the project from Sept. 4 to Oct. 2, a city spokesman said Tuesday.

The developers are asking for more time to gather additional information requested by the council, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

"Nothing is a 'done deal,'" Baker said in an email. "Until the council votes on it, it is just a request or recommendation. It is highly unlikely that the council would not approve the continuance, however."

The applicant seeking city approval for the proposed Redlands Crossing development, which includes plans for the Walmart Supercenter, is Walmart Stores Inc., said Robert Dalquest, assistant director of city's development services department.

The Redlands Crossing Project is proposed as a 256,614-square-foot retail and commercial center on about 33 acres, Baker said. If approved and built as planned, it will be anchored by a Walmart store and include other shops and fast-food restaurants.

"Following a presentation of the project and public testimony, council members asked additional questions of the applicant before continuing consideration of the project to Sept. 4," Baker said. "At the Sept. 4 meeting, the City Council will be asked to continue the item without discussion to Oct. 2."

A review of city fees, scheduled for the Oct. 2 council meeting, will be rescheduled to Oct. 16 to allow time for the discussion, Baker said.
