The Redlands Tea party Patriots will be taking signatures for a petition to stop AB131 tonight.

The Redlands Tea party Patriots will be at Redlands Market night and will be taking voter registration and signatures for a Stop AB131 Petition tonight.

The measure, recently signed by Governor Jerry Brown, will allow illegal immigrants who are accepted into state universities to receive Cal-Grant assistance starting in 2013.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Cal-Grant provided grants averaging $4,500 apiece to more than 370,000 low-income students last year.

AB131 also allows students who are not in the country legally to get institutional grants while enrolled in the UC or Cal State system, according to the Times. They may also get fee waivers in the California community college system.

The local group has joined hundreds across the state in fighting against the measure, promoting the petition during its general meetings.
