Redlands High Students Try Out 'Drunk Goggles' in Prom Safety Demo

Redlands police were on campus at Redlands High School this week to promote a safe and sober prom night.

Redlands police stopped by the Redlands High campus this week to work with students and show them the dangers of some potential prom night disasters– like texting while driving and driving while intoxicated.

One thing police did was outfit some students on Tuesday morning with so-called "drunk goggles" which simulate the effects of alcohol on one's equilibrium and coordination, according to police spokesman Carl Baker.

While wearing said goggles, students were then asked to walk a straight line or ride a tricycle around a cone pattern to see how difficult it becomes while "drunk."

The Redlands Police Department is working with the Redlands Unified School District Department of Public Safety, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Safety, and the California Bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control to help promote a safe 2013 prom night, Baker said.

The Redlands High School prom will be held this Saturday, April 20, at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda.
