RUSD Board of Education to Convene Tonight

An update on high school winter sports will be presented.

During tonight’s Redlands Unified School District Board of Education meeting, Pat Hafley, coordinator, district athletics, will give a winter sports update.

The schools participating include Redlands High School, Redlands East Valley High School and Citrus Valley High School, with winter sports encompassing boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, girls water polo and wrestling.

Besides Hafley’s report, Orangewood High School student Andrea Santoyo will also address the board and give them an update on activities at her school.

There are a handful of items on the business services consent items list, including an action to ratify a letter of understanding with Redlands Community Hospital to provide tuberculosis screenings to district employees, effective July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 at a rate of $15 each, not to exceed $15,000, to be funded by the district’s general funds.

During each Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Lori Rhodes is given an opportunity to update the board and the audience on items of importance to the district. Over the past few meetings, she has shared information on the looming budget and what steps the district must take to make the impact of cuts less damaging. She noted during the last board meeting that she would have even more news on the budget over the course of the next several weeks.

Public input is always welcome during meetings, and potential speakers must fill out a registration card before addressing the board. It must be submitted to the clerk prior to the start of the meeting. Comments can be made on any agenda item before or during the board’s consideration of the item, or on any matter not on the agenda that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the board. Speakers may not debate the board, and have just five minutes to address the board. They may only speak during the designated  public input time.

The board will convene at 7 p.m. at 25 W. Lugonia Ave., Redlands.
