RUSD Board of Education to hear financial report

Tonight's meeting will start at 7 p.m.

Tuesday night’s Redlands Unified School District Board of Education meeting will feature a second interim financial report from Sherryl Avitabile, assistant superintendent of business services.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at 25 W. Lugonia Ave., Redlands.

The last several meetings have had updates from Superintendent Lori Rhodes on the district’s budget, and during the last meeting, Rhodes presented two separate budgets that are contingent on whether or not the district has a surplus or a deficit. Since the Feb. 22 meeting, the Redlands Unified School District has received $1.32 million for improving facilities, from the Inland Valley Development Agency.

No hearings are scheduled for tonight's meeting, and in addition to Avitabile’s presentation, student Olivia Walker will give an update on activities at Citrus Valley High School.

Business services consent items that will be voted on include ratifying and approving an agreement with Epic Engineers to prepare City of Redlands Conditional Use Permit requirements for the installation of a permanent compressed natural gas fueling station; approving the use of two district buses for the Redlands Bicycle Classic in April; and accepting as complete and approving the filing of a notice of completion for Brickley Environmental for asbestos and lead abatement at Mission Elementary School. On Sept. 14, 2010, the Board of Education awarded a bid for asbestos and lead abatement at Mission, and authorized district staff has verified that work has been completed as of February 22.

The Board will also vote on educational services consent items, which will allow nine members of the Redlands High School Academic Decathlon team to fly to Sacramento for the State Championship Academic Decathlon March 11 through March 14, and for 30 members of the Citrus Valley High School Advanced Choir to travel to Camp Arbonado in Angelus Oaks to rehearse for their Spring Concert.

Members of the community are allowed to give their input to the Board of Education during meetings, so long as they submit a completed registration card to the Board’s clerk. Speakers must state their name and address, and have five minutes to share their thoughts. This is not meant to be a debating time, and complaints and problems relating to policy matters are referred to Superintendent Rhodes.
