RUMBO AL MUNDIAL VIDEO: Costa Rica Ends U.S. Streak, Outnumbered Ticos Supporter Shows Pride

Costa Rica beat the United States 3-1 Friday night in a World Cup qualifier televised live at Beer Hunter La Quinta, where a solitary Ticos supporter was overjoyed to see her team avenge the March blizzard match won by the Yanks in Colorado.

Dayana Vargas, who is from Quepos and lives in the Coachella Valley, was outnumbered by several dozen vocal people rooting for the U.S.

"I'm really happy about it because . . . it's a fair game now and we showed the United States that we can play," Vargas said. "I'm really happy that my team pull it off this time and we won 3-1. . . . I'm really proud to be a Costa Rican."

U.S. supporter Hugh Van Horn of Indio stood with his friend, Mexico supporter Tizoc DeAztlan of Bermuda Dunes, after the match.

Van Horn said he believes the U.S. will give a better showing against Mexico on Tuesday Sept. 10. DeAztlan said he will provide a shoulder for Van Horn to cry on if Mexico wins.

Coachella Valley supporters of the U.S. men's national team plan to meet at the same venue at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Beer Hunter La Quinta is at 78483 Highway 111.
