City of Redlands Touts Community and Senior Centers: 'Coolest Places in Town'

With Friday afternoon highs approaching 99 degrees and humidities near 25 percent for Redlands and Loma Linda, the city of Redlands is touting its Community Center and Senior Centers as "the coolest places in town."

"There's going to an increase in humidities the next few days due to monsoonal moidsture which is typical at this time of year," National Weather Service forecaster Mike Watkins said in a phone interview before 1 p.m. Friday.

"Humidity levels could increase to 40 percent and higher, so it will feel 4 to 5 degrees warmer tomorrow than it does today," Watkins said.

The Joslyn Senior Center is located at 21 Grant St. in Redlands. The Redlands Community Center and Senior Center are located at 111 W. Lugonia Ave.

"These cool centers offer pleasurable, informative, and enlightening programs in a relaxed and secure environment," Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in a statement. "People in the community are encouraged to enjoy the day away from their high temperature homes and come down to either Senior Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Community Center Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to beat the heat."

Activities at include: puzzles, cards and games, craft class, exercise class, and more, Baker said. All activities are free. The centers also offer movies on Tuesday and Friday, with popcorn and punch.
