Excessive Heat Warning Issued for Area That Includes Redlands and Loma Linda

'The combination of hot days and warm nights will make it difficult for those without air conditioning to keep cool,' the Weather Service advised.

As thermomoters crept toward afternoon highs near 107 and 108, an excessive heat warning was issued at noon Wednesday for an area that includes Redlands and Loma Linda.

"Hot  weather will continue across inland areas into the weekend as a strong ridge of high pressure remains in place over the region," the National Weather Service advised. "High temperatures will be well abovce average in the Inland Empire and all of the deserts.

"A minor colling trend will begin this weekend west of the mountains. However . . . it will remain very hot in the deserts Saturday and Sunday."

The excessive heat warning is to remain in effect until 8 p.m. Friday.

"The combination of hot days and warm nights will make it difficult for those without air conditioning to keep cool," the Weather Service advised. "Excessive heat can be stressful on humans and animals without proper precautions. Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.

"Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke."

Highs of 106 and hotter are expected for Redlands and Loma Linda are expected through Friday, according to the Weather Service.

By comparison, about 200 miles north in the hottest, driest, lowest spot in North America, the high Wednesday at Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park was expected between 122 and 127.
