How Hot Was It Thursday? 102 at Redlands-Loma Linda Border, 102 in Mentone

Afternoon temps peaked in triple digits Thursday in the Redlands-Loma Linda area, with more heat to come Friday through Sunday, according to meteorologists.

The high through 4 p.m. June 27 at the Redlands-Loma Linda border was 102, and the high near the east Redlands-Mentone border was 102, Mark Moede of the National Weather Service said in a phone interview.

Further east it was 99 in Yucaipa through 4 p.m., 100 in Beaumont and 102 in Cabazon, Moede said.

Beyond the San Gorgonio Pass, it was 108 in Palm Springs and 109 in Palm Desert, according to a 4 p.m. Weather Service update.

An excessive heat warning has been issued for the Pass area and the rest of Southern California, for a period beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday June 29 through 8 p.m. Sunday June 30.

"A strong upper level ridge of high pressure over California and Nevada will bring very hot weather to inland areas Friday through Sunday," the Weather Service advised Thursday. "High temperatures will be 116 to 122 in the lower deserts . . . around 110 in the upper deserts . . . 102 to 112 in the Inland Empire. Temperatures in the foothills and mower mountain slopes will range from 100 to 105. Some record temperatures are likely in these areas."
