Los Gauchos of Redlands Under-11s Among Winners in 75-Team Tournament

Celtic of Upland under-8 girls also fought hard in a dramatic final match against Black Pearl of Riverside in the Los Gauchos Soccer Tournament at Redlands Sports Complex.

Los Gauchos of Redlands under-11 boys were among the winners in a 75-team, two-day tournament that finished Sunday in north Redlands.

The tournament, organized and hosted by Los Gauchos Soccer Club of Redlands, drew hundreds of soccer players and their families for both days at Redlands Sports Complex on San Bernardino Avenue.

Los Gauchos under-11s won their final match 6-1 over Desert United of Palm Desert to earn first-place medals and a crystal soccer ball trophy.

Celtic of Upland under-8 girls fought hard in a dramatic final match against Black Pearl of Riverside before losing 3-2. One parent said it was a moral victory for the smaller, younger Celtic girls, who played with flair and enthusiasm to match their vocal supporters.

The Blues of Corona under-9 girls won their final match and took first place in their age division.

A total of 75 teams from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties took part in the at the 35-acre Redlands Sports Complex, tournament director Eric Memory said.

Boys and girls teams from age divisions 7-8 year olds to 17s competed, Memory said.

Redlands Sports Complex, which opened in 2008, is at San Bernardino Avenue and Dearborn Street.
