Banning Detectives, Tactical Officers Search Redlands Home, Arrest Suspect

The suspect, identified as Donte Dominic Cannon, 24, was found Tuesday morning at the residence on Courier Avenue and taken into custody, Banning police said.

A man who was wanted in connection with a May 27 armed robbery-kidnap attempt in Banning was arrested by detectives and tactical officers Tuesday morning in Redlands, according to Banning police.

Banning police investigators and emergency tactical unit officers served a search warrant about 7 a.m. at 521 Courier Ave. #B, Banning police said in a statement.

The home is one block south of Lugonia Avenue between Orange and Church streets in Redlands.

"The search warrant was the result of an investigation on an attempted armed robbery and kidnapping that occurred in Banning on May 27th, 2012," police said.

"The victim in this case related that a black male arrived at his residence and forced him, at gun point, to drive to an ATM machine and withdraw money," police said. "Prior to the victim being able to withdraw money from his account, the suspect fled the scene."

The suspect, identified as Donte Dominic Cannon, 24, was found Tuesday morning at the residence on Courier Avenue and taken into custody, Banning police said.

A gun and other unspecified evidence were located and collected during the search, police said.

“At this point we have no information leading us to believe there was any gang involvement," Banning police Sgt. Alex Diaz told Banning-Beaumont Patch.

The alleged victim in Banning and the suspect "knew of" each other but did not know each other directly, Diaz said. They have mutual friends but were not friends themselves, the victim told police.

Cannon was booked Tuesday afternoon at Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of attempted robbery and kidnapping, according to Banning police and Riverside County sheriff's inmate records.
