Fire Guts Vacant Redlands Home That 'Was Frequently Used by Transients'

The fire was reported early Tuesday July 31 in the 11000 block of Iowa Street and firefighters from Redlands and Loma Linda responded, a Redlands spokesman said.

Fire gutted a vacant home that "was frequently used by transients" early Tuesday on Iowa Street in west Redlands, a city spokesman said.

The fire was reported shortly after midnight in the 11000 block of Iowa Street and engine crews from Redlands and Loma Linda responded, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

"When firefighters arrived they found the vacant single-family residence and surrounding vegetation well involved with fire," Baker said. "Firefighters initiated an attack that brought the fire under control in less than 30 minutes."

The vacant residence was gutted and the loss was estimated at $150,000, Baker said. No injuries were reported.
