Fire Department's Efforts Benefit Children's Hospital

The second annual Pictures with Santa event was a success, as was a special screening of "Happy Feet" for patients at the hospital.

A big “thank you” to our firefighter friends at Loma Linda Fire Department for hosting the second annual Pictures with Santa event on Dec. 1, benefiting Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.

Scores of people trooped to Loma Linda fire station to get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as tour the fire station.

Sales proceeds from the pictures also benefit Loma Linda Firefighters Association.

The wilds of Antarctica were recreated at the Stater Bros. Activity Center at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital on Dec. 9 for a special screening of the movie “Happy Feet.”

Kids reveled at the adventures of “Mumbles” the penguin, while enjoying popcorn and drinks during the screening.

To celebrate the release of the film “Happy Feet Two,” Starlight Children’s Foundation and partner Aaron Brothers, a division of Michaels arts and crafts store, brought patients and family members in for a wonderful afternoon that included screening of the first “Happy Feet” film, crafts, gifts and photos.

The Children's Hospital and its foundation also received donations this week from two different sources in the community.

On Thursday, Farmer Boys Restaurants donated a check for $35,190 from money raised in its 11th annual "Give a Helping Hand" campaign. The restaurants collected donations from patrons from Sept. 6 through Oct. 2.

Also Thursday, two members of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's minor league affiliated Inland Empire 66ers and members of its dance team visited the children with gifts of shirts, hats and Rally Monkeys. The crew also brought along a $11,000 donation from the 66ers for the hospital foundation, money raised at the team's golf tournament in August.
