Little League Seeking Help for Tournament

Loma Linda will host two rounds of the 9- and 10-year-old division playoffs.

Kenny Boyd is looking for a few good volunteers.

Must be willing to work hard, project a good image of Loma Linda and love baseball.

Boyd is the player agent for Loma Linda Little League, and is helping coordinate the league's effort as host of the 9- and 10-year-old Division All-Star Tournaments for California Little League District 21 and Section 3.

And with the District tournament opening with three games Sunday, he needs help making it goes off without a hitch.

"The consensus we heard back last year from other leagues was that they really enjoyed themselves, and they had really nice things to say," Boyd said. "We really want to get the volunteers laid out and do an even better job this year."

While the league has people lined up for many of the smaller tasks, such as scorekeeping, running the scoreboard and counting pitches, it's the bigger jobs that Boyd is still hoping to fill. Some of those jobs include setting up and chalking the field, working in the snack bar and setting up and taking down the public address system.

The league, which has a waiver from the district which allows Adventist players outside the league's boundaries to transfer to Loma Linda, has volunteered to host more tournaments for the district as a thank you for allowing the transfers.

The action begins Sunday morning, with three games set for the opening day of the seven-team tournament. The first game will be at 9 a.m., with the other two scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Loma Linda will open play in the tournament Monday night at 8 p.m., playing the winner of Sunday's first game between Ken Hubbs Little League and Rialto Eastern Little League.

Other district tournaments will start within the next two weeks, with Little League softball (for 11- and 12-year-olds) set to begin June 28, and Little League baseball set for July 5.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering can sign-up on Loma Linda Little League's website. The website also lists the names of the players who will be participating for Loma Linda.
