Looking For Affordable Books? Try A.K. Smiley Library

Get your books for as little as $2 at the libraries semi-annual book sale.

More than 139 books were sold in the first two hours of this week’s Semiannual Book sale presented by the Friends of A.K. Smiley Public Library in Redlands.

The sale - which started on Tuesday - will end 4 p.m. Sunday.

"These are big books for low prices," said Christina Guillian, who was one of the shoppers early Friday.

The cost of all books is $2 today and Sunday.

"I'm on spring break," said Kerry Dunn, a fifth grade teacher at Bryn Mawr Elementary in Loma Linda.

Dunn, from Redlands, bought a few books on tape during his shopping trip on Thursday.

"They can be so expensive, these cost $29.95 each," said Dunn. "Even if they were $6, they would be a good deal."

Dunn, 58, said people having to deal with this economy could be why so many shoppers are at the Redlands library.

"I'll probably be back for books when they are $2," Dunn said, who has been coming to the library since he was 4-years-old.

"This helps support the Smiley library," he said. "It's my favorite place in Redlands."

The semiannual book sale continues today Sunday in the Assembly Room of the library.

Hours:

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., $2 per book

Sunday,  2 p.m. to 4 p.m., $2 per book
