PossAbilities Triathlon Set for Sunday

Athletes of all abilities will have the chance to race around Loma Linda in the tenth annual event, which is a fundraiser for the Loma Linda University Medical Center program.

Athletes of all abilities will be racing around the streets of Loma Linda on Sunday morning as part of the tenth annual PossAbilities Triathlon.

Adult athletes will begin racing from the Drayson Center at 7 a.m., and will go on a route that will include a 3.1-mile run, 11-mile bike and 150-yard swim. Youth athletes, who will start at 9 a.m., will race on a route that includes a half-mile run and bike ride and a 25-yard swim.

There is also a separate 5K race as part of the event.

The event is a fundraiser for the PossAbilities program, which is headquartered at the Loma Linda University Medical Center's East Campus. Its goal is to provide support and athletic outlets for those that are disabled. The event is sponsored by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

Due to the event, there will be road closures in the morning hours around Loma Linda. The running race route will include a trip up Anderson Street to Academy Drive, and down Van Lueven Street and back to the Drayson Center, with the bike ride embarking from there.

The bike ride will leave the Drayson Center, ride up to Benton Avenue and then ride laps on Barton Avenue from University Avenue to Loma Linda Drive. The swim will be in the Drayson Center pool.

Because of the race, Omnitrans has announced several bus route detours. Check with the transit company's website to check for detours.
