Purple Ribbons Meant to Spur Residents to Participate in Cancer Relay

American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Colton is scheduled to be held May 21.

Last week, more than a dozen people turned out to “paint” neighboring Colton purple. They actually tied purple bows around trees, lightposts and signposts to get the word out about the upcoming American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Colton.

The relay is scheduled at 9 a.m. on May 21, at Colton High School. About 45 teams with more than 400 participants have already signed up. And almost $11,000 had been raised by Monday.

The relays are traditional events held throughout various cities. Each features opening ceremonies, walks throughout the day, a luminaria event and closing ceremonies. Each relay features its own vibe. Many have festivals and vendors.
